Camping Tips

Camping can be a great way to see beautiful areas right across the UK; it is also a cheap and fun way to spend time with family and friends. Millions of people each year choose to “rough it” at festivals, in holiday parks and at dedicated camping sites. There are tips that you should take in to account when going camping, keeping these tips in mind will improve your camping experience.

Checklist

One thing you do not want to do is arrive at your campsite having forgot some important items such as a toothbrush or toilet roll. Draw up a checklist with all the items that you need for your trip and tick each one off the list once it has been packed.

Practice

Knowing how to erect your tent before you go camping can save you time when you reach the campsite. Put the tent up on a practice run in your garden to make sure that everything is fine and that no pieces are missing.

Protecting the tent

If camping on rough ground it is wise to use a durable sheet of plastic to provide protection to the groundsheet, also make sure to clear the area of any sticks or rocks as these may cause damage to the tent (as-well as being uncomfortable!). Any dirt should be removed after use using a brush and/or warm water, you should be careful not to use soap as it may damage the fabric.

Spares

You should always carry spares for your tent in case of emergencies. Tent pegs can easily bend, break or become lost; it is advisable to carry five or six in case they are needed. The same should be done with guy lines which can easily snap. Tent repair kits containing a piece of fabric and a silicone sealant can be handy for repairing rips or holes in the tent, shops at camping sites and holiday parks where you are staying may sell these kits. A roll of duck- tape is also a handy piece of equipment to have on hand.

Pitching the tent

When pitching the tent it is wise to take into account the wind. Pitch the tent at an angle that will allow the tents design to deflect the wind away; having the door of the tent facing away from the wind will prevent gusts of wind lifting the tent or rain being blown in. If you are planning on pitching the tent near to a river it is advisable to take note of the rising water levels, avoiding flat ground is recommended as it will become easily waterlogged. If you are camping on a dedicated campsite then be vary of pitching too close to toilets and showers.

Enrich Your Life – And That of Others

Are you one of those types of people who take what you have in life for granted? You may be and not even realise it and millions of us don’t. There are so many things in life that we have come to expect as a given, yet seldom spare a thought for those who go without even the most basic amenities we have on offer in our modern society. Things like a safe and steady home, a nice warm bed to get into at night, running water and electricity.

These are all things that most of us could not even fathom living without, let alone living with even less. So maybe it is time to take a step back and look at the position you are in for a few minutes; where you live and how lucky you are, in the bigger scheme of things.

Okay maybe we can say that some of us have got it bad relative to many people who live around us whether it is a low income or a dysfunctional household. These are all not particularly nice things, but they pale into insignificance when you think on a global scale. If you consider yourself in a position of advantage maybe it is time to start helping to enrich the lives of those less fortunate than yourself.

You could donate money to charities on a regular basis, help down at the soup kitchen, or, if you are really keen on making the biggest impact you can, you could go and volunteer overseas in the heart of the places where these donations are actually heading. It can be a life changing experience and really help you put your trials and tribulations into perspective and each breath of fresh air will taste that much sweeter. There is nearly no-one on this planet that would not feel a massive rush of self-fulfilment after knowing that they had personally helped brighten the day of someone less fortunate than them self.

So if you are in a fairly decent position, such as having a middle-class lifestyle in a middle-class town or village, then maybe it is time you made some small steps to change your attitude towards life and step outside the box for a bit and really make a difference in the world to those who need it most. It doesn’t matter if you go help out at the soup kitchen or even if you end up going to volunteer overseas, you will really be making a difference for someone with a terrible standard of living and you will feel great for doing it. So please, help make a difference and brighten up your own life at the same time.

A Look at Historical Norfolk Holidays

When people visit an area and have a little interest in the local history of the place, it’s always nice to be able to associate some sort of famous historical characters and periods to the area. It helps them gain a better visual image of the time and place that the stories happened and helps bring them to life in the mind’s eye. When taking historical Norfolk holiday’s people will not be disappointed. There has been a lot take place in this part of the country over the centuries and some of it is steeped in folklore.

The area was made up years ago by a great number of tribes from villages dotted around the county and that much is still very much as it was almost two thousand years ago. Except now there are a few more villages and they are better connected. In 60 AD the queen of the Iceni people united many of these tribes and Boudicca lead a revolt against the Roman Empire.

There are lots of places in Norfolk you can visit that will tell you about what went on and you can really get a feel for the story. Not far from Swaffham lies a village called Cockley Cley where visitors can experience how life may have been at the time with a reconstructed Iceni village. To add to the experience there are lots of places to explore that were originally Roman Towns or settlements like The Caistor Roman Town which is one of the most famous historic sites in Norfolk and the hill fort at TasBurgh.

There are many other Roman settlements as going back long ago Norfolk was one of the most populated parts of the country. Although no historical visit to the area would be complete without taking in some of the market towns. The Saxon town of Downham Market is well worth a day trip to see its collection of old structures which include an Iron clock tower which has a very gothic look to it.

There is a very busy calendar of events to attract visitors to the area. Some of which are water based fun days like ‘Dragon Boat’ racing and visiting in during a carnival which is known as St. Winnold’s Fayre is probably one of the best times to arrive although any time will have plenty going on. Other market towns are worth a visit such as Holt which is home to some lovely Georgian buildings and is where you can get on the North Norfolk Railway which will take you through some of the county’s most stunning landscapes.

Whichever part of the county and whatever time of year you visit you will not be disappointed with what it has to offer. It doesn’t matter if you have no idea where to start because Norfolk is so well adapted for tourists that anywhere you stay you will be able to find information about local attractions.

The Importance of the Right Motorcycle Insurance

Having the right motorcycle insurance is important; especially if you plan on doing any activities like riding cross-country. The last thing you want is to have an accident and then find out that your motorcycle insurance isn’t going to cover everything. These days there are many options when it comes to motorbike insurance and you have to be careful about what options you choose. There are a lot of people currently riding around the UK with insurance that does not cover as much as they think it does. In some instances the policy provider has been accused of providing misleading information, but a lot of cases involve individuals not carefully reading the policy before handing over their money.

Why is having the Right Motorcycle Insurance Important?

Every motorcycle insurance policy will have their own conditions that set out your rights to make a claim and when the insurers can refuse to pay. For example their might be a stipulation that if you leave your keys in the ignition of the bike the insurer does not need to pay out if it’s stolen. Another example would be the in regards to any modifications you make to the bike; a lot of insurance companies will expect you to notify them straight away or risk invalidating your motorbike insurance. Another important condition is that you may be expected to notify the policy provider if you change your usage habits; for example you go from a weekend rider to a motorcycle pizza delivery employee.

If you don’t know the conditions surrounding your current insurance policy then it could easily be that you are already doing things which have invalidated your policy. This could mean that when you destroy your newly modified bike during a cross-country race you will find that the insurance company refuses to pay out. It is easy to blame them, but if you haven’t bothered to read what you’ve signed up for you can’t really say it’s their fault. The sad fact is that most people are guilty of signing pieces of paper without really understanding what it is they are signing. It is true that these documents seem almost written to be boring and overly technical and it can be hard finding the time to examine every stipulation. If we don’t though, we could be in big trouble later.

How to Purchase the Right Motorcycle Insurance Policy

If you want to be sure of purchasing the right motorcycle insurance policy you need to fully consider how you are going to use the motorbike and then find the policy that best suits your usage. If you expect that your usage is likely to change you should also keep this in mind when choosing. Make sure that you fully understand the policy and don’t sign something that you don’t understand. If your insurance company wants you to notify them when conditions change then make sure you do this. A lot of people fear that doing so will increase the price of their insurance but it won’t usually.

The New "Green" Billabong

As one of the world's leading makers of surf clothing and gear, Australia's Billabong also wants to be known as a friend of the environment; especially to the oceans that provide the playground for the majority of the company's customers. To that end, the company introduced a new line of clothing in 2008 under the name Eco Collection. They followed up in 2010 with the introduction of the new Rasta Collection.

The Eco line is named for the primary fabric used to make the clothing, ECO Supreme Suede. ECO Supreme Suede is produced from a combination of recycled polyester and rPET, a material that comes from recycled plastic bottles. Billabong claims the suede is high in quality while still being eco-friendly. The Eco line began with board shorts and swimsuits and has since been expanded to include t-shirts, hats, and hoodies. Organic cotton is also being used now as an additional material in the Eco program.

The Eco line is part of a broader company project to reduce the impact its manufacturing process has on the environment, while still creating eco-friendly clothing. With an average ten plastic bottles being needed to create a single pair of board shorts, Billabong is saving a lot of landfill space that the discarded bottles would otherwise fill. The company's wetsuit division joined the movement in 2010 when it introduced its first eco-friendly offering, the B9 Eco line. The B9 wetsuit is made primarily of recycled polyester and uses water-based inks which are friendly to the oceans.

In 2010 Billabong freesurfer Dave Rastovich lent his name to the company's new Rasta line in a project to help provide financial support for efforts to protect the world's oceans. Rastovich explained the program during a 2008 interview by saying, "When it comes down to it, if you have an option to buy a pair of board shorts that are actually lessoning our impact on the world we live in, the choice is simple."

The line includes the name of Surfers for Cetaceans (S4C) in its marketing, and in return, donates a certain portion of the profits to the organization. S4C is a collaboration of surfers from all over the world who provide a voice for the protection of whales, dolphins, and the world's oceans in general.

With two pairs of board shorts, a t-shirt, and ball cap currently in the new S4C line, Billabong clothing continues its research and development to further the company's green goals and support S4C. We'll have to wait and see what new items will be added to the Rasta collection for 2011.
